Dieting and Other Stuff

Good morning from the bower on Church St.

I receive a Word of the Day in my email each morning. A while back "bower" was the word for that particular day. It means a ladies private apartment in a castle. I fell in love with the word and started including the above message at the end of all my emails. My house is far from likeness to any castle I know, but the old saying about your home being your castle just sits well with me, so I grabbed onto the word bower and hugged it tight. I have a love for words and keep a long list of my favorites.

In the dieting department, I was given an early birthday present from my SIL. A book called, "The Lord's Table," by Mike Cleveland. Oh, my. Just what I needed. It is filled with scripture and questions to guide you on your journey to substitute your cravings for food to the love of Jesus. It is filling me up spiritually and taking me to new places on this journey. Like I said, just what I needed. Something different and something focused on God. It's a win/win. Here is one nugget of goodness that filled my heart: "No food will satisfy my heart nor fill the emptiness in my soul. That is what Jesus Christ is for. He is "real meat" and the "bread of life" and I am to feed on Him." Now there is something to think about. I eat out of loneliness sometimes, but I can fill myself up with reading my Bible or other spiritual books instead of reaching for chocolate. I'm just skimming the surface here. The book goes much deeper than this. I highly recommend it if you're like me and have tried diet after diet with some success, but not the results you really want. I'm not getting any compensation for this review. Just wanted to share a good find.

Book Review - If You Believed in Love

I finished a book this morning that I had to share.

"If You Believed in Love," is a contemporary Christian romance about finding love after tragedy. 

Elizabeth is an English literature professor and Jonathan is a widower who joins her class as an editor instead of a student. Most of the novel is set in this class, where I learned more about Browning and Austen than anywhere else. It took my breath away. I laughed out loud, cried and experienced every emotion in between. I could not put the book down. 

I've read thousands of books in my lifetime and this one is going in my top 10 list of books I've read and loved. 

I will read it again. 

I checked Amazon and she has written many books, several as a series which I dearly love.

I highly recommend this book.

I simply loved it and wanted to share.

I Won! & a Book Review

Welcome!

Recently, there was a contest on a Facebook group I belong to called "Bible Study from the Heart (Faith Journaling and Bible Study). You had a chance to win the "Faith Sprinkles Adult Coloring Bible Study" book by Leslie Eaton.. I entered and I WON!! I was and am so excited. I just received the book in the mail today and I love it. It is a combination Bible study, testimonial, devotional coloring book for adults. Very heartwarming and just what I was looking for. I wanted something to enhance my Bible Journaling an this will do the trick quite nicely.

Leslie'sYouTube channel has the link to her Facebook group where you can find files to download and lots of inspiration from Leslie Eaton and other members of the group. She is very generous with her printables  and even has links for the lessons if you can't afford to buy the book. You will be blessed by this lady.

Before I got my book, I download Week #2's lesson and the printable. Before I printed the picture, I shrunk it by 50% and then printed it on vellum to glue in my Bible Journal as a tip-in. I love the picture and how it turned out. It is based on John 4:39-42.

A Book Review

Today's book review is on an old classic, "The Screwtape Letters," by C.S. Lewis.
Amazon calls it "a classic masterpiece of religious satire written from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below.'" It is funny and deadly serious. Screwtape is writing letters to his nephew, Wormwood, who has been given a Christian to derail and bring over to the dark side. Very original. I recommend reading it to remind ourselves of how easily we can be derailed.

Book Review - Sarai

Today's book review is for another great Biblical fiction book I read called, "Sarai," by Jill Eileen Smith.

It is the story of Abram and Sarai later called Abraham and Sarah. The story is wonderfully told in a rich story line of faith, patience and perseverance. Page length is 322 pages. I highly recommend this book. It is free on Kindle today and is one of three in a series.

Book Review - "The Centurion's Wife"

Scripture story.

Book review - "The Centurion's Wife," by Janette Oke and Davis Bunn

Loosely based on the above scripture.
Main characters are:
Leah - Pilate's niece/servant
Pontius Pilate
Porcula- Pilate's wife
Herod
Alban - The Centurion
The story takes place just before Jesus' death and after. It is well written and the story moves right along.  I enjoyed it very much and highly recommend it for those who like Biblical fiction.
